When I work with our clients on blogging, it never fails that one of the first questions they ask me is "How often should I write? " and it never fails that they all have the same shocked expression when I tell them "no less than once a week and ideally 3 or more." There are a few reasons why blogging is so important to your marketing strategy, and the reason frequency matters is because it means your website is constantly getting updated, and Google loves new content.
I know that writing 3 posts (or more!) a week sounds intimidating, and I'll admit, it can be - especially when you have 5 million other tasks on your to-do list. Finding the time, topics, and resources to have a successful blog can be challenging, and I thought it would be a good topic to break down into a few blog posts over the next few weeks.
So how do you increase the number of posts?
One of the best ways is to get the people in your company to help. I will be honest with you - if it were up to me to produce 3 or more posts a week for our blog, it would end up being my primary job function. So I asked others to contribute. Not only does it ease my load, but it gives our blog a more rounded voice. I am only an expert in my field. The rest of them, I know enough to understand how they work within the company and how they incorporate into my division, but I am not the expert.
Who are the experts in your company who can help you with content? In our company, when we want to write about web design and development, Adrienne writes the content because she is the one who is the expert. When it's social media or blogging, it's me, and Erinn will occasionally write about specific topics such as email. Now that Kim has joined the team, he also writes about social media but more from the angle of how to use it to better position yourself to sell your services and your company. We even tap into our creative team for our cartoons!
I encourage you to look around your company and tap into the experts that you work with. They may not all be anxious to write, but you may be surprised at how agreeable they may be!
